THE INTERNATIONAL ASTROSTATISTICS ASSOCIATION (IAA)THE INTERNATIONAL ASTROSTATISTICS ASSOCIATION (IAA)

The International Astrostatistics Association (IAA) is the first global scientific association or society devoted to astrostatistics and astroinformatics. It currently has 601 members (as a Feb 5th, 2018) from 56 separate nations. Nearly all members are from the fields of astronomy/astrophysics, statistics, and informational sciences, with some three-fourths of the membership from the astrophysical sciences.

The foremost goal of the IAA is to promote collaboration between astronomers/astrophysicists and statisticians. A secondary goal, but no less important than the first, is to provide astronomers with a better understanding of new statistical methods that may enhance the analysis and interpretations of the massive data being gathered in astronomy. The IAA provides detailed information to members on publications related to astrostatistics, forthcoming conventions and conferences, workshops, and educational opportunities.

The IAA, in collaboration with the Astroinformatics and Astrostatistics Commission of the IAU, is sponsoring a seminar series focused on the contact points of Astronomy, Statistics, and Data Science.
