Artificial Intelligence in Astronomy22.07.2019 - 26.07.2019 Artificial Intelligence in Astronomy
Calendar
General
Location

This workshop will present the current landscape of methods and applications in astronomy and prepare the next generations of astronomers to embark on these fields. Artificial intelligence covers a wide range of algorithms and the first thing is to provide a clear map to navigate in this jungle and show which techniques is used for which kind of science. Thus, we aim at having a few invited talks by prominent speakers to clearly set the scene. This will be complemented by a series of contributed talks in order to provide a clear panorama of the current use of AI in astronomy.

In 1949, Kurt Gödel showed that there exist solutions to Einstein’s equations of general relativity allowing for closed timelike curves.. The existence of such curves would allow time travel into one’s own past leading to all kind of causality paradoxes. The Kurt Gödel Society intends to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Gödel’s seminal publication and the 100th anniversary of the decisive experimental verification of general relativity by organizing a conference at the University of Vienna, Austria. This event should bring together the prominent researchers from the fields of Physics, Mathematics, Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence.

Hot-wiring the transient universe VI19.08.2019 - 22.08.2019 Hot-wiring the transient universe VI
Calendar
General
Location

Hot-wiring the Transient Universe 6 will explore opportunities and challenges of massively parallel time domain surveys coupled with rapid coordinated multi-wavelength follow-up observations. The interdisciplinary agenda includes future and ongoing science investigations, information infrastructure for publishing observations in real time, as well as novel data science to classify events and systems to optimize follow-up campaigns. Time domain astronomy is at the fore of modern astrophysics and crosses fields from solar physics and solar system objects, through stellar variability, to explosive phenomena at galactic and cosmological distances. Recent rapid progress by instruments in space and on the ground has been toward a continuous record of the electromagnetic sky with ever increasing coverage, sensitivity, and temporal resolution.

Baltic Applied Astroinformatics and Space data Processing21.08.2019 - 23.08.2019 Baltic Applied Astroinformatics and Space data Processing

The Conference is intended as a collaboration platform for cross border partnership and knowledge transfer for astronomers, astrophysicists, space researchers and engineers as well as experts in related research disciplines in fields such as informatics, electronics, satellite technology, geodesy and environment sciences. While the general scope of BAASP is wide, this year’s specific themes are astrophysics, space technologies and remote sensing. The conference focuses on the Baltic region but we also cordially invite participants from other countries.

Extremely Big Eyes on the Early Universe09.09.2019 - 13.09.2019 Extremely Big Eyes on the Early Universe
Calendar
General
Location
Rome

This series of conferences, Extremely Big Eyes on the Early Universe, will bring together an international group of experts to review the current state of the art in the study of the high redshift universe and discuss how best to use giant telescopes to learn about it. Among others, we aim to address :

  • What are the key synergies between giant telescopes and other facilities? What are the areas and topics where a concerted effort will yield far superior results than the sum of all parts?
  • What calculations are required in order to make testable predictions and interpret the results of future astronomical observations?
